Anne Rice Essay Research Paper Anne Rice. Author: . Anne Rice Essay, Research Paper. Anne Rice: A Fascinating Story Because of her fascination with the a midsummer synopsis, supernatural, her life. in New Orleans, and her daughter#8217;s death, Anne Rice exhibits powerful and climate change, dark. Synopsis! emotions in her writings. Anne Rice#8217;s family life was not always a happy one. Her family was one of the lower. middle class, struggling to make it.
Katherine, her mother, became stressed over keeping. a household and took to drinking. Anne#8217;s mom continued this habit. throughout her life. I feel that this drinking had a major effect on Anne#8217;s writing style. Anne#8217;s books are full of vivid detail. They are written as if they were seen through the eyes of a drunk. Anne#8217;s mother continued drinking until the day of her death in 1956. Arguments Against! Katherine#8217;s death hit her daughter very hard. Since her mother had died, Anne had. to become a mother to her two younger sisters, Tamara and Karen.
Anne hated to. assume this role and looked for a way out. Her father gave this to her in the form of St. Joseph Academy, a boarding school. This was not a very good solution. considering how much Anne hated the school. She cried every night for about a year, and a midsummer dream, would later write about her experiences an a novel, The Witching Hour.
When Anne. became sixteen her father remarried. Howard(Anne#8217;s father) and his new wife, Dorothy, decided to move to definition salvation history, Texas to follow Howard#8217;s#8217; work. This decision shocked Anne and she. was very opposed; the move still took place. At her new school, Anne met a boy named Stan Rice. Night's Synopsis! Stan was very involved with. poetry and he and Anne instantly hit it off. Stan had an influence on pros and cons minimum Anne like no other. Night's Dream Synopsis! person had. He was the first boy she kissed which was an experience she wrote about. in her second novel, The Feast of All Saints- here is the excerpt. Richard had kissed Marie and she had never felt a sensation akin to pros minimum wage, what she#8217;d. experienced when he was holding her lightly, gently, as if he might break her, in his. arms.
His hands had spread out firmly against her back, pressing her to synopsis, his chest so that. the buttons of his frock coat had touched her breasts. And when that had happened, a. shock had passed through her, so keenly pleasurable that she had let her head fall back, her lips apart, and and cons of increasing wage, felt that shock#8217;s consummation in one shuddering instant as his lips. pressed against a midsummer night's synopsis, hers. . . She had been obliterated in that instant, everything she had. Invention! ever been taught had been obliterated, all that she was before had simply gone away. In 1961 Stan proposed to Anne by telegram. She accepted, and on October fourteenth. they were married. Anne and Stan began experimenting with drugs as a way to express. emotions more fully, and to appreciate themselves more. Anne shows this new. outlook on life (that of being #8220;high#8221;) as a way to experience things like none other. Such. an experience is the way a vampire first sees the world when he becomes a vampire.
Here is an outtake of Interview With the Vampire that shows this new vision. (Ramsland, 96) It was as if I had only just been able to see colors and shapes for the first time. I. was so enthralled with the buttons on Lestat#8217;s black coat that I looked at nothing else. for dream a long time. . . Against Change! When I saw the moon on the flagstones, I. became so enamored with it that I must have spent over synopsis, an hour there . . . and with my. Arguments! awakened senses, I had to preside over the death of dream synopsis my body . . . I simply regret I was. not more attentive to the process. This excerpt is the way the main character in Interview With the Vampire, Louis, sees. the world through his #8220;Vampire Eyes#8221;. Barbie! After smoking marijuana and experimenting with. LSD for about a year Anne had a disturbing vision. She began wondering what happens. when a person dies and if that person knows they are dead. She was on a midsummer night's the verge of insanity for several months, but.
recovered by history not using drugs. She started a new job and her life improved, then she. became pregnant. Night's Dream Synopsis! Anne was very happy about becoming pregnant, and. Arguments! looked forward to becoming a mother. Her daughter was born Michele Rice and was very. special to Anne. One night Anne had a very disturbing dream. Her dream was about.
Michele, in which Anne#8217;s daughter was suffocating because of something in her blood. Anne Considered this to be a premonition and watched over her daughter very carefully. for about synopsis a month. There were no problems, so Anne thought her. Definition Salvation! worries were over. That very year Michele began to get sick. Anne took her now four. Night's Dream Synopsis! year-old daughter to the doctor where she was diagnosed with acute granuleucytic. Press! leukemia. A Midsummer Night's Synopsis! Michele lived until 1972 when she died on a hospital bed. , Two years later Anne wrote about the loss of her daughter through the. eyes of Louis in Interview With the Vampire. Here is the.
I looked up and saw myself in a most palpable vision ascending the altar steps, opening. the tiny sacrosanct tabernacle, reaching with monstrous hands for the consecrated. ciborium, and taking the Body of Christ and strewing Its[sic] white wafers all over the. carpet; and walking then on the sacred wafers. . .giving Holy Communion to the dust. . .God did not live in this church; these statues gave an image to nothingness. Anne has not only been influenced by her family life, but also by her place of birth, New. Orleans. Invention! New Orleans had an extremely positive influence on Anne. It taught her that. diversity was a blessing, and that life was full of contradictions.
These Contradictions. may be seen in the way that New Orleans may have a mansion next to a small, inexpensive house. Night's Dream Synopsis! I#8217;m sure that if you#8217;ve ever read any of pros and cons of increasing minimum Anne#8217;s work. you may know that she likes to use vampires as characters in a midsummer night's synopsis, her novels. Anne has an. extreme fascination with the examples of bureaucracy life, occult that started when she was very young. As a. Night's Synopsis! small child she ventured out to see the movie The Mummy. When the. scene where the mummy first comes out of the coffin occurred, Anne became so. Essay About The Cuban Crisis! terrified that she walked out of the theater. She became fascinated with. mummies and the supernatural soon after this fear was overcome. Synopsis! When Anne was nine she went to see Dracula#8217;s Daughter and was very impressed with. the amount of emotions the vampire portrayed. She became fascinated. with these creatures of the night, a passion that has been kept intact to arguments for and against, this day.
In her books, Anne keeps her vampiric characters very androgynous. She does this. because she feels there will be a better display of emotions since there is no gender. bias. Since vampires do not reproduce, Anne feels that the most erotic experience they. can have is sucking a humans blood. Here is an example of what I mean- Lestat and the swamp and the noise of the distant camp meant nothing. Lestat might. have been an insect, buzzing, lighting, then vanishing in significance. The. sucking mesmerized me; the warm struggling of the man was soothing to the tension of. Night's Dream! my hands; and there came the beating of the drum again, which was the drumbeat of. his heart- only this time it beat in perfect rhythm with the beat of my own heart, the. two resounding in the very fiber of my being, until the beat began to grow slower and. slower, so that each was a soft rumble that threatened to go on without end. This was an example in Interview With the barbie doll, Vampire. which happened to Louis, the books main character.
It was the a midsummer night's dream synopsis, first time he fed on a. human in his afterlife. Definition Salvation History! In Interview With the Vampire there are many symbolic characters that relate to Anne#8217;s. life. To further explain this I will use the example of Claudia. Claudia is a young girl. A Midsummer! around the barbie doll, age of seven whom Louis, makes into a vampire. Since vampires retain the. age in which they are created, Claudia remains seven for eternity. Anne uses Claudia to. A Midsummer Dream! represent women and the way that she feels about their rights. Claudia is so. young as to represent how women are (or were) given the rights of only a small child. Lestat, another character in several of Anne#8217;s books, is one of arguments for and against climate change Anne#8217;s most famous. characters. He is somewhat of an anti-hero, but still remains just in a midsummer, some instances.
He. represents all the things that Anne has never done, but that she wishes to do. Printing Press! In the novel Interview With the Vampire Lestat takes a man. named Louis, and synopsis, turns him into barbie an unwilling vampire. Louis is a midsummer night's dream synopsis another of definition salvation history Anne#8217;s more. famous characters. He is enraged that he was drug into the hellacious existence of a midsummer dream a. vampire and vows revenge on Lestat. Though Louis still wishes to remain human, he is. shunned by man. Louis represents Anne#8217;s grief over the loss of her daughter. (Ramsland, 166-167) Anne Rice is a very mysterious woman. She has had a fascinating life that had. Minimum! quite a major effect on her writings.
She is one of the most popular writers of contemporary times, and her fame will live on.

Leo is a professional writer and blogs about goals, habits, productivity, GTD, simplifying and a midsummer night's dream synopsis, more at http://zenhabits.net Full Bio. If you’ve always dreamed of being the next Hemingway or Vonnegut (or even Grisham), or perhaps if you just want to write better essays for school or posts for your blog … you need to sharpen those writing skills. Becoming the best writer you can be isn’t easy, I won’t lie to you. It takes hard work. But it’s worth the effort. And if it seems like an insurmountable task, there are some concrete things you can do today that will get you on invention printing the road to improvement. Personally, I’ve been a fiction, newspaper, magazine and blog writer for 17 years now, writing for a variety of a midsummer night's dream publications … and I’m still trying to improve.
Every writer can get better, and no writer is perfect. I think I’ve grown tremendously as a writer over the last couple of decades, but it has been a painful journey. Let me share some of what I’ve learned. No matter what level of writer you are, there should be a suggestion or twelve here that will help. Of Increasing Wage. 2. A Midsummer. Write a lot . Pros Of Increasing Minimum. Try to write every day, or multiple times a day if possible.
The more you write, the better you’ll get. Writing is a skill, and like any other skill, you have to practice it to get better. Write stuff for yourself, write for night's dream, a blog, write for other publications. Write just to write, and have a blast doing it. It gets easier after awhile if you practice a lot. 3. Write down ideas, all the time . Printing. Keep a little notebook handy (Nabokov carried around index cards) and write down ideas for stories or articles or novels or characters. Write down snippets of conversation that you hear. Dream Synopsis. Write down plot twists and visual details and fragments of doll cases song lyrics or poems that move you. Having these ideas written down helps, because they can inspire you or actually go directly into your writing. I like to keep a list of post ideas for my blog, and a midsummer dream synopsis, I continually add to it. 4. Create a writing ritual . Find a certain time of day when you can write without interruptions, and make it a routine.
For me, mornings work best, but others might find lunch or evenings or midnight hours the against best. Whatever works for you, make it a must-do thing every single day. Write for at least 30 minutes, but an hour is even better. If you’re a full-time writer, you’ll need to synopsis, write for several hours a day, as I do. But don’t worry!
It helps you get better. 5. Of Bureaucracy. Just write . If you’ve got blank paper or a blank screen staring at you, it can be intimidating. You might be tempted to go check your email or get a snack. Well, don’t even think about a midsummer synopsis it, mister. Of Increasing. Just start writing. A Midsummer. Start typing away — it doesn’t matter what you write — and get the doll cases fingers moving. Once you get going, you get in the flow of things, and it gets easier. I like to start out by typing things like my name or a headline or something easy like that, and then the juices start flowing and dream, stuff just pours out of about The Cuban Missile of 1962 me. But the key is to just get going. 6. Eliminate distractions . Writing does not work well with multi-tasking or background noise.
It’s best done in quiet, or with some mellow music playing. Do your writing with a minimal writer like WriteRoom or DarkRoom or Writer, and do it in full-screen. Turn off email or IM notifications, turn off the phone and your cell phone, turn off the TV, and clear off your desk … you can stuff everything in a drawer for now until you have time to sort everything out later … but don’t get into sorting mode now, because it’s writing time! Clear away distractions so you can work without interruption. Synopsis. 7. Plan, then write . Invention Press. This may sound contradictory to the above “just write” tip, but it’s not really. I find it useful to do my planning or pre-writing thinking before I sit down to write.
I’ll think about night's synopsis it during my daily run, or walk around for a bit to brainstorm, then write things down and do an salvation, outline if necessary. Then, when I’m ready, I can sit down and just crank out the text. The thinking’s already been done. For a great method for night's dream synopsis, planning out a novel, see the invention printing Snowflake Method. Dream Synopsis. 8. Of Bureaucracy In Everyday Life. Experiment . Just because you want to a midsummer night's dream, emulate the great writers doesn’t mean you have to be exactly like them. Try out Essay The Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 new things. Steal bits from other people. Experiment with your style, your voice, your mechanics, your themes. Try out new words.
Invent new words. Experimentalize everything. A Midsummer Dream. And see what works, and toss out what doesn’t. Salvation. 9. Revise . If you really crank out the text, and experiment, and just let things flow, you’ll need to go back over night's dream synopsis, it. Yes, that means you. Many writers hate revising, because it seems like so much work when they’ve already done the writing. But if you want to be a good writer, you need to learn to revise.
Because revision is where good writing really is. It separates the mediocre from the great. Go back over everything, looking not only for grammar and spelling mistakes, but for for and change, unnecessary words and awkward structures and confusing sentences. Aim for clarity, for a midsummer night's, strength, for definition salvation history, freshness. 10. Be concise . This is a midsummer night's dream synopsis, best done during the revision process, but you need to edit every sentence and paragraph and remove everything but the essential. A short sentence is preferred over a longer one, and a clear word is preferred over two in jargonese. Compact is for and against climate, powerful. 11. Use powerful sentences . Night's Dream Synopsis. Aim for shorter sentences with strong verbs.
Of course, not every sentence should be the same — you need variation — but try to create sentences with oomph. Missile Crisis Of 1962. You might find this easier to do in the revision stage, as it might not be something you’re thinking about when you’re pumping out that first draft. 12. Get feedback . You can’t get better in a vacuum. Get someone to read over your stuff — preferably a good writer or editor. Someone who reads a lot, and can give you honest and intelligent feedback. Dream. And then listen. Really try to understand the criticism and definition salvation, accept it and a midsummer night's dream synopsis, use it to and cons minimum wage, improve. Instead of being hurt, thank your editor for helping you get better. Night's Dream Synopsis. 13. Put yourself out there . At some point, you’ll need to let others read your writing.
Not just the examples of bureaucracy person who you’re allowing to read it, but the a midsummer synopsis general public. You’ll need to invention press, publish your book or short story or poem, or write for a publication. If you’re already doing a blog, that’s good, but if no one reads it, then you need to night's dream, find a bigger blog and try to submit a guest post. Putting your writing out in the public can be nerve-wracking, but it is against, a crucial (if painful) part of every writer’s growth. Just do it. 14. Learn to be conversational . Many people write too stiffly. I find that it’s so much better to dream, write like you talk (without all the umms and uhhs). People relate to it better. It’s not an easy task at first, but it’s something to strive for.
And that brings up another point — it’s better to break the rules of grammar in order to sound conversational (as I did in the last sentence) than to sound stilted just so you can follow the proper rules. But don’t break the arguments change rules of grammar without good reason — know that you’re doing it, and why. 15. A Midsummer. Start and examples in everyday, end strong . The most important parts of your writing are the beginning and end. Especially the beginning. If you don’t hook your reader in the beginning, they won’t read the rest of your writing. So when you’ve written your first draft, spend some extra time crafting a good beginning. Get them interested and wanting to know more. And when you’re done with that, write a good ending … that will leave them wanting more of your writing. Got some tips of your own?

In this article, we give you 6 good SAT essay examples you’ll be able to find in nearly every prompt the SAT throws at you.

If you haven’t already read our introduction to the SAT essay prompt, read it now. This will give you a good idea of what the SAT essay assignment looks like. Then come back to this article. The SAT essay prompts have several important things in common: They’re all passages that try to convince the reader of the veracity of the author’s claim They’re all around the same length (650-750 words) They’re all meant to be analyzed and written about in a relatively short period of time (50 minutes)
This means that you can have a pretty good idea ahead of time of a midsummer dream synopsis, what types of argument-building techniques you might see when you open the booklet on test day. The main techniques the author uses aren't going to invention printing, be overly complex (like the first letter of every word spelling out a midsummer night's dream a secret code), because you just don’t have the time to analyze and write about complex techniques. And because of that, you can prepare yourself with SAT essay examples that’ll be likely to found across persuasive passages about many different issues —we've provided some ideas below. We've chosen two examples of evidence, two examples of barbie, reasoning, and two examples of stylistic/persuasive elements you can use as stellar evidence to support your thesis . Play to the features of the passage – if there are a lot of facts/statistics, make sure to discuss that; if it dwells more on night's, personal anecdotes/appeals to emotion, discuss those. For each example below, we also show you how you can use the type of evidence to support your thesis across a range of prompts.
This should prove to you how effective pre-planned examples are. So, without further ado, onto our list of multipurpose support for any SAT Essay prompt. The most basic way author builds an argument is by cases supporting claims with evidence . There are many different kinds of a midsummer synopsis, evidence author might use to support her/his point, but I'm just going to discuss the two big ones I've seen in the various official SAT Essay prompts that have been released. These two types of evidence are Facts and Statistics and Anecdotes . Example Type #1: Facts and Statistics. Employing statistics and facts to bolster one's argument is one of the most unassailable methods authors can use to build an argument. Examples Of Bureaucracy In Everyday. This argument-building technique is particularly common in night's synopsis, essays written about scientific or social studies-related topics, where specific data and doll facts are readily available. Statistics usually show up in the form of specific numbers related to the topic at hand - maybe as percents, or maybe as a way to communicate other data. Night's Dream. Here're a couple of examples of statistics from an press official SAT essay prompt, Let There Be Dark by Paul Bogard: Example : 8 of 10 children born in the United States will never know a sky dark enough for a midsummer dream synopsis, the Milky Way. Example : In the United States and Western Europe, the amount of light in the sky increases an average of invention press, about 6% every year. Factual evidence can also be in a midsummer synopsis, the form of non-numerical information.
Often, you'll see facts presented with references to the research study, survey, expert, or other source from which they're drawn. Examples Of Bureaucracy In Everyday. Here's another example from Let There Be Dark: Example : Already the World Health Organization classifies working the night shift as a probable human carcinogen. Another form of evidence that is often used as an alternative to actual facts or statistics is the anecdote. This type of evidence is most often found in speeches or other sorts of essay prompts that are written as a personal address to the reader. An anecdote is a short story about a real person or event . When an author discusses own personal experience or personal experience of someone they know or have heard of, that's anecdotal evidence. Here's an example of (part of) an anecdote from an official SAT essay prompt that was adapted from a foreword by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter:
One of the most unforgettable and humbling experiences of a midsummer synopsis, our lives occurred on the coastal plain. We had hoped to see caribou during our trip, but to our amazement, we witnessed the migration of tens of thousands of caribou with their newborn calves. In a matter of a few minutes, the sweep of tundra before us became flooded with life, with the sounds of grunting animals and clicking hooves filling the air. The dramatic procession of the Porcupine caribou herd was a once-in-a-lifetime wildlife spectacle. For And Against Climate Change. We understand firsthand why some have described this special birthplace as “America’s Serengeti.” Even though anecdotes aren't statistics or facts, they can be powerful because it’s more relatable/interesting to the reader to read an anecdote than to be presented with dry, boring facts. People tend to put more faith in experiences if they can personally connect with the experiences (even though that doesn't actually affect how likely or not a statement is to be true). A Midsummer Dream. In the of bureaucracy in everyday example above, rather than discussing the statistics that support the creation of wildlife refuges, Jimmy Carter instead uses an anecdote about experiencing the wonder of nature to illustrate the same point - probably more effectively. By inviting the reader to experience vicariously the majesty of witnessing the migration of the Porcupine caribou, Carter activates the dream reader's empathy towards wildlife preservation and so makes it more likely that the reader will agree with him that wildlife refuges are important. All authors use reasoning to some extent, but it’s not always a major part of how the author builds her/his argument. It's not always enough just to Essay about Missile, throw out support for a claim – an author may choose to a midsummer, use reasoning to explain how the evidence presented actually builds the argument.
Example Type #3: Counterarguments and Counterclaims. One way in which an author might use reasoning to persuade the reader to accept the claim being put forward is to discuss a counterargument, or counterclaim, to the author's main point. The discussion (and subsequent neutralization) of counterarguments is invention press, found in prompts across all subject areas. A counterargument or counterclaim is simply another point of view that contradicts (either fully or partially) the dream synopsis author's own argument. When some might claim, however, or other contrast words and phrases show up in an essay prompt, the author is likely presenting a counterclaim. Here's an example of an effective presentation (and negation) of a counter claim from an official SAT essay prompt, The Digital Parent Trap by Eliana Dockterman: “You could say some computer games develop creativity,” says Lucy Wurtz, an administrator at salvation history, the Waldorf School in Los Altos, Calif., minutes from Silicon Valley. Night's Synopsis. “But I don’t see any benefit.
Waldorf kids knit and about The Cuban Missile Crisis build things and paint—a lot of really practical and creative endeavors.” But it’s not that simple. While there are dangers inherent in access to Facebook, new research suggests that social-networking sites also offer unprecedented learning opportunities. So how does bringing up an opposing point of night's, view help an author build her argument? It may seem counterintuitive that discussing a counterargument actually strengthens the main argument.
However, as you can see in the brief example above, giving some space to another point of view serves to make it seem as if the discussion’s going to doll, be more “fair.” This is still true whether the a midsummer dream author delves into the counterargument or if the pros and cons of increasing author only briefly mentions an opposing point of view before moving on. But a true discussion of the counterargument , as is present in Dockterman's article, also shows a deeper understanding of the topic than if the article only presented a one-sided argument . And because it demonstrates that the author knows the a midsummer dream synopsis topic well enough to be able to see the issue from multiple sides, it means that the reader is more likely to trust that the author's claims are well-thought out and worth believing. In the case of the Dockterman article, the author not only mentions the opposite point of view but also takes the time to get a quote from someone who supports the opposing viewpoint. This even-handedness makes her following claim that it's not that simple more believable, since she doesn't appear to be presenting a one-sided argument. Example Type #4: Explanation of Evidence. In some cases, the clarity with which the author links her evidence and examples in everyday her claims is night's synopsis, integral to the author's argument. As the College Board Official SAT Study Guide says, Reasoning is the connective tissue that holds an invention printing argument together. It’s the “thinking” — the logic, the analysis — that develops the argument and ties the claim and evidence together. This is one of the a midsummer dream trickier argument-building techniques to discuss (at least in my opinion), because while it is present in many essay prompts, it isn't always a major persuasive feature.
You can pretty easily identify an pros and cons of increasing wage author's explanation of evidence if the author connects claims to support and dream synopsis explains it , rather than just throwing out evidence without much ceremony or linking to the claim; however, whether or not the explanation of the evidence is a major contributing factor to the author's argument is somewhat subjective. Printing. Here's a pretty clear instance of a case where an author uses explanations of each piece of evidence she discusses to logically advance her argument (again from the Dockterman passage): And at MIT’s Education Arcade, playing the night's synopsis empire-building game Civilization piqued students’ interest in history and was directly linked to an improvement in the quality of pros of increasing minimum wage, their history-class reports. Unfortunately, the explanation the a midsummer night's dream Official SAT Study Guide gives for how to discuss an author's reasoning is a little vague: You may decide to discuss how the author uses (or fails to use) clear, logical reasoning to barbie, draw a connection between a claim and the evidence supporting that claim. But how exactly you should go about a midsummer dream synopsis, doing this? And wh y is it persuasive to clearly explain the examples link between evidence and claim?
In general, when an author explains the logic behind her argument or point, the reader can follow along and understand the author’s argument better (which in some cases makes it more likely the reader will agree with the night's dream author). In the Dockterman example above, the author clearly lays out salvation data ( Civilization leads to night's dream synopsis, improvements in history class), a claim (this is because of engagement with the game and thus the subject material), provides data that back up that claim (retention rate skyrockets when students do things for themselves), and links that smaller claim to a larger concept (actively browsing pages on a computer or tablet is way more brain-stimulating than vegging out in front of the TV). This clear pattern of salvation, data-explanation-more data-more explanation enables the reader to follow along with Dockterman's points. It's more persuasive because, rather than just being told Civilization leads to improvements in history and having to take it on faith, the reader is a midsummer synopsis, forced to printing, reenact the a midsummer night's synopsis thinking processes that led to against climate, the argument, engaging with the a midsummer dream topic on a deeper level. Examples of Stylistic/Persuasive Elements. This final category of examples is the top layer of argument building. The foundation of salvation history, a good argument is a midsummer, evidence, which is often explained and pros of increasing wage elucidated by reasoning, but it is often the addition of stylistic or persuasive elements like an ironic tone or a rhetorical flourish that seals the deal. Vivid language is truly the night's icing on the persuasive cake.
As with explanations of evidence, vivid language can be found across all topics of essay prompts (although they usually play a larger role when the passage is light on facts or logic). Vivid language is against, pretty easy to spot - it shows itself in similes, metaphors, adjectives, or any words that jump out at night's dream, you that don’t seem to have purely functional purposes . Here are a couple of examples - the first is Paul Bogard again: …show that what was a very dark country as recently as the for and against climate change 1950s is now nearly covered with a blanket of light. This example is relatively restrained, using the a midsummer night's metaphor of a blanket of light to add emphasis to Bogard's discussion of life, light pollution. A more striking example can be found in another official SAT essay prompt, adapted from Martin Luther King, Jr.'s speech Beyond Vietnam - A Time To Break Silence: Vietnam continued to draw men and night's dream skills and money like some demonic destructive suction tube.
